ACTIVATE THE WHEATBELT 2021 - NARROGIN

Activate the Wheatbelt is very excited to kick off this year’s events with a new location with huge long-term potential.

Join us on the weekend of June 4th – June 6th to help plant 40,000 native seedlings that will be building on previous plantings along creeks and creating tree corridors throughout the farm. Its not just tree planting though, we have live music and DJs, dancing, workshops, kids activities and wonderful opportunities for community connection and education.

This is a family friendly, inclusive and drug free event which is open to all ages. Everyone is welcome to come and help us create habitat for wildlife and bring the biodiversity back to this farm landscape.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE EVENT

At the event we will be hard at work planting trees during the day, with the motivation of DJ's and musicians to inspire us along in the field. At night things really come to life with a diverse range of musical acts to listen and dance to. All organic meals are provided while you enjoy serenity under the stars and warmth by the bonfire. You will be encouraged to have some great conversations, play some music if you’re inclined, and make friends with like-minded people. This is a community effort where everyone is included and part of the Activate the Wheatbelt team.

Through the spirit of celebration and the physical planting of the trees themselves, Activate the Wheatbelt events get you back in touch with Mother Nature. We aim to encourage a hardworking and ethical community of people that support our environmental and societal causes. This is an opportunity to help repair our environment whilst meeting new friends and experiencing some of the rawest West Australian Bush festivals brought to you by members of the legendary Activate team.

GOALS

This Activate event will take place at Angus Armstrong's Rosebrook Farm in the locality of Nomans Lake, near Narrogin. A typical farming landscape focused on mixed cropping and pastured sheep. At this event we will be planting 40,000 eucalypt seedlings as well as some Sandalwood seeds and a mix of native species shrubs in specific locations.

Our main aim is to create ecological corridors connecting remnant bushland areas together. We will create multiple corridors leading to Toolibin Lake, an internationally recognised RAMSAR site and federally listed Threatened Ecological Community. Many small birds, mammals, reptiles insects and other native wildlife are unable to cross the open fields common in farming landscapes. The tree corridors we are creating will provide sheltered nesting areas and pathways allowing wildlife to move across the landscape. This will increase biodiversity and ecological resilience.

Some areas of Rosebrook Farm are also affected by salinity. Planting appropriate native trees and shrubs will help to reduce the impacts of salinity and can help to reverse the effects over time. The trees and shrubs also sequester carbon from the atmosphere, contributing to global efforts to reduce the impacts of climate change.
